White: What was it like going into Colorado and finally beating the defending champions?
Alfonzo: It was thrilling. We played really well against them during the season and that gave us the motivation we needed. We went out there with energy and confidence knowing we had the skill to win the game. Our attitude throughout our preparation for the game, as well as during the game allowed us to compete with them and get the victory.
White: Your fumble recovery and return in the second half of the game against Colorado was a turning point in the game as it stopped the Crush's threat to come within two point. What was going through mind during that drive, and more specifically during that play?
Alfonzo: They had just stolen momentum back. We were up by 19 and halftime and they cut our lead to nine. Our guys did a great just causing the disruption with the QB during the exchange. At first I was just trying to recover the ball, but then I got a glimpse of the endzone and didn’t look back.
White: You've been named AFL's Ironman for two consecutive weeks. Have you been doing anything different, and how do you hope to continue that success in the American Conference Championship game?
Alfonzo: I haven’t really been doing anything different. The opportunity just came about and I seized it. With Etu Molden getting injured, the space (WR/LB) opened up and I was able to showcase what I’ve been working on. When the chance comes up, you just need to step on the field and play hard.
White: Ben Nelson, San Jose OS - WR/LB, was recently named Rookie of the Year and scored 6 TDs in their Divisional Round game against Arizona. How do you and the rest of the Rush hope to contain him?
Alfonzo: We don’t have a specific strategy for Nelson. We scout the whole team and prepare for them as a whole unit. If we singled out Nelson and developed a strategy for him, then other players on the SaberCats would burn us. We match up well against their team and Jeremy [Unertl] will do a great job defending him.
White: San Jose is currently on an eight-game winning streak. Why do think the
SaberCats have been on such a hot streak after starting the season at 3-6 and what do you and your teammates need to do to make that streak come to an end?
Alfonzo: San Jose has great experience and veteran leadership on their team. They know what it’s like in the playoffs, and they know what it takes to get to the ArenaBowl. We have guys though who have gained experience throughout the season and during the playoffs. We keep growing and gaining more confidence too. Our guys just want to go out, compete and prove we belong.
